A NEW £1 million eco-spa is opening at Appleby Manor, transforming the hotel into a destination spa and providing state-of-the-art facilities for Eden residents on their doorstep.
A new 500sqm two-storey extension has been added to the four star hotel to create the stunning Garden Spa, complete with a hydrotherapy pool, aqua thermal suite, five treatments rooms, two outdoor spa baths and more.

The new spa will employ seven staff and have therapists offering a wide variety of massage and holistic and beauty treatments using luxury brands Elemis, Lava Shells, O.P.I and Perron Rigot.
To encourage non-residents to use the spa and treatments, a variety of memberships are also available as part of the Garden Spa Beauty Club, along with day spa packages, all with a variety of pricing options.

Appleby Manor owner Mike Dunbobbin, who bought the hotel with his wife Angela 15 years ago, said: "We are really excited about the venture. No expense has been spared and we feel the spa will transform the hotel and push us forward."

The new facility has been decorated in a sleek and modern style but with a quirky twist to reflect its Garden Spa name. In the aqua thermal suite guests can relax in the new aroma salt inhalation room which has heated walls and seats and offers relaxation along with health benefits as salt is injected into the atmosphere.

There is also a sauna, steam room, juice bar, relaxation area, changing areas, disabled facilities, bespoke foot spas and a state-of-the-art rainsky and monsoon shower. A hydrotherapy infinity edge pool has been created which has an underwater bench with jets for back massage, a lounge bed with all over body jets, volcano pads for leg massage, and canons cascading down to massage tired shoulders.

Two spa baths, seating six to eight people, have been installed, one set in a walled spa garden with lounge furniture and a fire pit, while the other is set in a glass cube and is available for a couple's 30-minute private hire, including a glass of prosecco, at just £20.

These range in price according to the length of time in the aqua thermal suite, treatment times and also options for a two-course lunch, dinner, afternoon tea or champagne cheese board from Appleby Manor's award-winning chefs.

To encourage local people to visit the new wellbeing facility, the doors of the new Garden Spa will be thrown open in a series of forthcoming open days. Originally planned to be two open evenings, the events have resulted in such massive demand and interest that this has been increased this to three open days. They are set to take place on Monday, 30th November, Tuesday, 1st December, and Wednesday, 2nd December.

The open days will include demonstrations from the spa's new team of therapists along with those by brand representatives and a talk by Mr. Dunbobbin on the creation of the spa.
Guests will be able to enjoy a free glass of prosecco along with canapés and will be treated to goodie bags to take home.

To launch the new venture there will also be a host of special offers on the open days, including discounts on retail products and booked treatments, and also special offers on day packages and beauty club memberships — including a month's free membership. The culmination of two years' work, the Garden Spa boasts being possibly one of the only carbon-neutral spas in the country, having been created to be as eco-friendly as possible.
This starts from using a biomass boiler to heat the spa and facilities, and electricity from 100 per. cent renewable sources, right up choosing to use beauty ranges made from natural products to confirm their green credentials.

They have also chosen to use local businesses where possible in the creation of the spa and this has included Atkinsons builders merchants and the Appleby-based Logic renewable energy company.
With exciting times ahead. Mr. Dunbobbin revealed that this is just phase one of the new spa, with plans to develop a second phase in 12-18 months when a rooftop spa garden will be created to promote relaxation and wellbeing.
