Keswick - The Lake District

Keswick is a pretty market town located within a short but picturesque drive from Appleby Manor Country House Hotel.

The town of Keswick is a favorite holiday destination for climbers and fell walkers and is beautifully situated at the northern end of Derwentwater, between Blencathra and Skiddaw and the entrance to the Borrowdale valley. The area surrounding Keswick offers excellent walking, climbing and cycling terrain. Keswick is a haven for outdoors enthusiasts and for anyone looking for outdoor equipment as Keswick has no shortage of outdoor shops.

Keswick offers visitors an array of attractions and museums to visit and has plenty of cafes and shops to keep everyone occupied.

Appleby Manor Country House Hotel has put together a few suggestions of attractions to visit whilst out sightseeing in and around Keswick:

Derwentwater
Derwentwater is 3 miles long and can be enjoyed on foot via one of the many paths around the shore, or a more leisurely cruise on board the Keswick Launch.

Cumberland Pencil Museum, Keswick

Trotters World of Animals, Keswick
Trotters World of Animals is home to hundreds of friendly animals including traditional favorites, endangered species, birds of prey and reptiles.

Mirehouse, Bassenthwaite Lake, Near Keswick
Mirehouse, is an outstanding historic house with beautiful gardens overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake and to the rear is Skiddaw. The house has strong links with poets Tennyson, Wordsworth and Southey. The house remains a living family home therefore it has limited opening hours. The gardens, with wooded adventure playgrounds and lakeside walks are open daily, there is also a tearoom here.
