Teds Big Adventure
It all began January 2014, we decided to have a clear out to start the New Year off with a fresh start.
We started in the cellar and as we were moving boxes, we came across one tucked in the corner labelled “bits and pieces 2001”, we cleared everything off it and brought it upstairs wondering what would be inside. We opened the box with great anticipation hoping it would contain some valuable antiques but we were soon disappointed as it was only filled with old newspaper, we began emptying it out and this dishevelled soft toy fell out, matted fur all stained black and very dusty from being wrapped in newspaper for the last 14 years.
We thought long and hard about what we should do with him and then Angela decided that she would take him home and see if we could get him cleaned up. She carefully hand washed him and we were amazed and pleased that he came up a treat. He needed some clothes so we asked Marjorie if she could make him something to wear and she decided to knit him a jumper with Appleby Manor on it. We all thought he looked very smart.
As he had spent the last 14 years in a box in the cellar the staff, first of all, came up with the imaginative name of Ted and then they thought it would be a good idea to take him on holiday and see a bit of the world and so Ted’s Big Adventure began, which you can follow on our facebook page and also on the map below.
We were soon getting requests from guests to take him on holiday so we decided that we would launch a competiton for the best picture of Ted on a day out.
To enter this competition guests can ask to take him out while they are staying here and all we ask is that they bring him back and post some pictures onto our Facebook page with the title “Ted’s Grand Day Out” along with a description of who he was with and what he did. We will judge the pictures at the end of the year and announce the winner at our New Years Eve Gala Dinner. The lucky winner will receive a voucher for a 2 night bed and breakfast stay in a Garden View or Deluxe Room with dinner in Bistro 1871 on the 1st night.
So when you next book to stay don’t forget to let us know if you want to take Ted out and get those pictures taken.
