Martin Oliver08/11/2014 - Staff Update

In preparation for our exciting new development and bedroom refurbishment we have taken on a new Maintenance Manager.

Martin Oliver has 8 years experience in property maintenance and is a painter and decorator by trade, very handy when it comes to painting rooms!

Moira Errington22/08/2014 - Staff Update

Moira Errington is joining us as a general assistant and the reason we know her already is because she was married here in 2010. Moira has lived locally for the past 15 years and is originally from the Yorkshire Dales where she was a Nurse.

Piers Taylor22/08/2014 - Celebrity Watch

Piers Taylor, one of the presenters of the BBC 2 show The House That 100k Built called into the Hotel today to do some filming. They were filming the part of the show where Piers calls the self builders to discuss the plans and they shot everything in Bistro 1871 to make the most of the stunning views from there.

Stewart Hutchinson15/08/2014 - Another New Manager!

Appleby Manor are pleased to announce we have a 2nd new edition to our management team, Stewart Hutchinson.

Stewart has lived locally since he was 3 years old and has 10 years experience working in various establishments across Cumbria.

We are very pleased to announce that we have a new addition to our management team, Matthew Jackman. Matthew has worked in our industry for the past 8 years, he has previously worked in a resort in the Phillipines and he has lived locally for the past 10 years. Welcome to the team.

Mike Hewitt13/06/2014 - Goodbye to our Breakfast Manager

Today we had to say goodbye to our breakfast manager Mike Hewitt who is retiring after several years with us here at the hotel.  Mike, Angela and all the management and staff wish him all the best of luck and we hope he enjoys his retirement. We are really going to miss him

Rory Stewart Visits19/11/2013 - Politician Watch!

Today we had a visit from our local MP Rory Stewart who bought with him Patrick McLoughlin, the Secretary of State for Transport. They enjoyed a very nice lunch in our new Bistro 1871 and the Secretary even promised to return for a leisure break with his wife.

Nicki Chapman Visits04/11/2013 - Celebrity Watch!

Today we had a visit from Nicki Chapman, the presenter of the BBC show Escape to the Country. Nicki and her film crew filmed the "end of show" chat in our conservatory and even stayed for a bite to eat in our recently opened Bistro 1871.

The newest addition to the Hotel, our new Bistro 1871. Bistro 1871 is designed to compliment our existing fine dining restaurant and has an emphasis on using local produce and homemade food.

Couples 55th visit to hotel21/05/2013 - Couple make 55th visit to Hotel

Mr and Mrs Geoff and Iris Wyle recently made their 55th visit to the Hotel for their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations to them both. Mr and Mrs Wyle have been coming to the Hotel since 1990 and we hope to be seeing them again at some point in the future.

water-bore-hole08/05/2013 - Water Bore Hole Completed

At the hotel we now have a fully working bore hole which delivers fresh mineral water to the Hotel. The bore hole goes down 72 meters and took a whole 2 days to dig.

The water is pumped up from the bore hole, filtered, softened and then passed through a UV filter to make our own Appleby manor Mineral water.

We have now started putting our fresh mineral water in all the bedrooms on arrival for guests to enjoy.

 Work was started on the Bore Hole that will eventually supply all of our water here at Appleby Manor.

biomass-boiler11/01/2013 - New Biomass Boiler

The Hotel now has a wonderful new biomass boiler which not only heats all our rooms but also heats the whole leisure club as well. With the installation of this new 'Green' Boiler we will produce 100 tons less CO2 per year which is a staggering amount and helps to secure Appleby Manor as a leading environmentally friendly hotel.
