Dry and crisp, very refreshing, with a sparklingly elegant red-fruit flavour. 12% vol.

3 Moet & Chandon  Brut Imperial Epernay, France  £37.95 
Medium weight and fruit with a good strong mousse. Moet & Chandon is the largest champagne merchant and grower. Take a trip round their extensive cellars if you get the chance. 12%vol.

4 Gosset Brut Excellence   Brut Epernay, France  £39.95
A model family-run firm. The palate offers a mouth full of creamy, zesty fruit and the experience ends with an intense lingering finish. 12%vol

Made by Albert Bichot, one of Beaune's biggest growers and merchants. The precise flavour of the "terroir" comes through in this dry, steely, lively, crisp wine. Chardonnay really suits the Chablis soils. 12.5%vol.

Full of character and personality. Intense and complex nose. Spicy, sweet, exotic, perfumed fruit-pineapple, lychees and hints of wax, balanced by mouth-watering acidity. 13.5% vol.

43 Monopole, Rioja Barrel-Fermented Rioja Alta, Spain 2005 £18.25 
The balanced fruit and acidity of the Viura grape blended with Malvasia matches the concentrated American oak spiciness. Lemon-fresh, limes, butter, toast. Produced by CVNE. 13.5%vol.

52 Riesling QbA, Schmitt Sohne Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany 2008 £16.25 
Brilliant sweet/acid harmonious balance, flowery, with developing oily scents and flavours. Riesling is Germany's great grape, at present the world's most underrated. It does not need a high alcohol content for character, making this wine ideal for those who like a lot! 8%vol

A light-medium wine with delicious spicy aromatic flavours. 11.5% vol

Muscat (85%) and Gewurztraminer give intensely fruity and floral aromas of passion-fruit, ripe banana, rose and jasmine, with a hint of spices. Fresh, crisp and elegant with an aftertaste of green apples. 11.5%vol.

55 Pfaffenhiem Black Tie Pinot Gris  Alsace France 2005 £18.95 
Wonderful blend of these two grape varieties making a very refreshing, quite aromatic medium bodied wine. Stunning on its own but really goes well with all white fish and shellfish dishes. 12.5% vol.

The outstanding Domaine de Monthoux from Albert Bichot. Bursting with rich raspberry Gamay fruit, soft purple-red colour, good character and length. 12.5%vol.

62 Valpolicella Superiore DOC Botter Veneto, Italy 2007 £17.95 Half Bottle:£10.00
A proper Valpolicella from the best sites and made to reasonable yields with a red-fruit & cherry nose and palate, fresh, stony fruit flavour and a bitter almond twist to the finish. 12.5%vol.

63 Pinot Noir Saint Omer Malborough, New Zealand 2007 £21.95 
A classic Malborough amalgam of strawberry, raspberry, and black cherry all bound up in spicy French oak. It has firm but soft tannins and a finish of sweet black fruits. 14%vol.

Aged in oak for twelve months, this dark cherry red wine with tinges of terracotta has aromas of spices and mature black fruits. Good acidity is balanced with luscious fruit, spices and oak to give a delicious well- integrated wine. Full-bodied and silky on the palate. 13%vol.

A clear ruby colour with spicy liquorice and blackcurrant flavours typical of the variety, and boasting a lazy, elegant aftertaste. A product of the Miguel Torres family. 13.5%vol.

A beautiful ruby colour with a typical Medoc style of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. This wine displays elegant tannins with a hint of oak-ageing. 12.5% vol.

76 Ironstone Zinfandel California, USA 2008 £19.50
A well balanced wine revealing flavours of boysenberries, cherries and fleeting hints of white pepper. 14%vol.

77 Vina Real, Rioja Crianza, CVNE Rioja Alta, Spain 2005 £20.00 Half Bottle:£10.00
Tempranillo, Mazuela and Garnacha grapes, aged for one year in American oak. Ripe, plummy vanilla. Crianza means "nursing" - at least 2 years old (1 year in oak), not released before the 3rd year. 13.5%vol.

One of the lighter wines of Beaujolais Cru boasting a full raspberry fruit flavour. Lively and clean yet still the most popular Beaujolais Cru. 13%vol.

A St. Emilion of class and elegance, aged partly in new oak barrels. Big jammy blackberry flavours from the Carbenet and merlot mix, beautifully aged and ready to drink. 12.5% vol.

80 Chateau D'Agassac AC, Haut Medoc Bordeaux, France 2001 £35.50
Ruby and purple tints with red fruit aromas and plums and an elegant oaky touch. Full bodied with velvety tannins, an elegant structure for this Huat-Medoc. Toasted aromas with kirsh notes. 13%vol.

From the Clare valley, dark and deep, intense full blackberry fruit nose with some earthy complexity. Lots of oak and berry fruit-mulberry and cherry linctus with chocolaty sweet ripeness. Intensely long, not big and ripe like wines from the Barossa. Good tannin and acidity structure. 14% vol.

Elegant, deep ruby, intensely powerful on the nose. The balsamic tones plus the smokey oak aromas provide a wine of full body and intense complexity. 13.5%vol.

Impressive full-flavoured wine from the Sangiovese grape. Exuberant character and generous ripe-fruit flavours of cherry and plum. Similar to a top-quality Chianti. 13% vol.

Serge Hochar deserves a medal for this wonderful wine - his vineyards were in the middle of the war zone in the Golan Heights. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend bursting with ripeness. 13.5% vol.

Organic wine from Guerrieri Rizzardi's vineyard. Whispy strawberry and cherry fruit with a light bitter finish. Hot days and cold nights produce grapes with excellent acidity, and wine which is particularly fruity and flavoursome. 12.5% vol.
