Lake District Activities
The area surrounding the Hotel abounds with things to do whether it is in The Lake District with its breathtaking beauty or in the North Pennines - England's largest 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
The area is a haven for walkers with no shortage of walks, whether it's a challenging walk on one of the Lake District fells or a gentle stroll around one of the many villages, there is something to suit all.

What better way to get around and see the spectacular scenery, there is no shortage of cycling and something to suit all levels.

There is an array of Golf courses in the local vicinity, including Appleby's well-kept 18-hole moorland course. It is both challenging and rewarding. You'll have a great game, whatever your handicap.
Information on other nearby Cumbrian golf courses is also available.
We can also arrange any of the following:
There is very little to match the excitement of powering your own four-wheel-drive quad-bike across the wild fell sides of the Lake District. Clear and careful training is followed by a ride, putting the machines and their drivers to the test. Descend steep slopes into rocky river beds, cross frightening inclines, and climb over the bumpy remains of dry-stone walls, before returning swiftly across a grassy meadow. All surrounded by the most amazing scenery you can imagine!
Clay Pigeon Shooting
Rookin House Farm features probably one of the most comprehensive range of different types of clay-pigeon shooting in Britain. Whatever your preference, you'll find it here.
Walking Treasure Hunt
Try one of Appleby Manor's made-to-measure walking treasure hunts for a bit of friendly competition.
The local falconers will happily train small groups in the art of falconry. There is something particularly satisfying about working in harmony with a bird of prey and this one-day course will ensure that you get to sample all sides of this interesting sport.
Other activities available include canoeing on Lake Ullswater, abseiling, and archery.
