| The areas of the Lake District & Yorkshire Dales offer families an array of things to see and do. There are many interesting family attractions, which can help to make an exciting and fun filled family holiday. Here are some of our favourites, which are within fairly close proximity to Appleby Manor Hotel:
Wetheriggs Country Pottery
Wetheriggs country pottery offers an array of things to see and do for all the family; from exploring the history of the workings of the only steam powered country pottery in the UK, to the potters at work, or even throw your own pot. There is a 'have a go' area for children to throw their own pots too or where they can paint models. There's a children's play area providing fun for all ages. There is also a collection of rare breeds of pigs and piglets and a newt pond.
Eden Ostrich World, Langwathby, Near Penrith
Set in Langwathby, 5 miles east of Penrith. Eden Ostrich World is an award-winning attraction, offering a fun day out for all the family. Meet Ostriches and see baby ostriches hatching in the hatchery. There are rare breed animals including Pozee - a Zebroid, there's a pets corner, and children can enjoy the adventure play areas. There is a stunning riverside walk along the River Eden deemed a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). You can also enjoy a Jeep Safari and learn about the Eden flood plains. There are plenty of picnic areas, or if the weather is not so good there is the farmhouse tea room serving homemade ware's including their speciality - sheep's milk ice cream. The Hayloft Gallery & Gift shops offer the perfect place to shop with an array of unique gifts presents.

Rheged, Near Penrith
An all-weather, all year round attraction Rheged is named after Cumbria's Celtic Kingdom. Rheged is an international award winning visitor attraction, providing an excellent day out for all the family. It is Europe's largest grass-covered building- designed to resemble a Lakeland hill. Inside you will discover a cinema screen that's bigger than six double decker buses! There are 4 spectacular giant movies: Rheged - The Movie, Everest, Forces of Nature and Dolphins. There is also Everest - the Top of the World Exhibition The Helly Hansen National Mountaineering Exhibition, a restaurant and coffee shop and speciality shops / artists galleries offering the very best that Cumbria has to offer.
Cars of the Stars Motor Museum, Keswick
A motor museum with a difference; it features vehicles from TV & Films including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Fab 1, Harry Potter's Ford Anglia, Batmobiles, Dukes of Hazzard and James Bond's Aston Martin. A fun attraction that has something for all the family to enjoy!
World of Beatrix Potter tm Attraction, Bowness-on-Windermere
Say 'hello' to Peter Rabbit and friends including Miss Moppet , Timmy Tiptoes and Jemima Puddleduck. The family can enjoy a magical re-creation of all the sights and sounds of Beatrix Potter's books, complete with sights, sounds and smells. There is even a recreation of Mr McGregor's greenhouse. Learn more about the life of Beatrix Potter at the display of her Lakeland Farm: Hilltop and how it inspired her. There is also a shop with souvenirs and the Tailor of Gloucester Tearoom.
Beatrix Potter's home: Hill Top is located at Far Sawrey in the Lake District, is owned by the National Trust and is also open to the public.
Throughout the Lake District there are numerous Lakes, many of which have boat rides which the whole family can enjoy. Including the nearby Ullswater Steamer.
